BANGKOK (MCOT/CNN) – A Bangkok taxi driver returned a wallet with $5,000 worth of cash his Japanese passenger accidentally left in his cab on Thursday.
The 36-year-old driver alerted a traffic radio station of the wallet forgotten in his cap by the 49-year-old Japanese tourist Takahashi Yasuyuki.
Thirapong Phuphan said after Yasuyuki got off on Silom Financial District he noticed the wallet left on the backseat. He asked the radio station to coordinate and find the owner.
In the wallet were Japanese currency worth about $5,000 and document and other ID's.
Thirapong said he wished all Thai taxi drivers to have unconditional honesty; "good things will happen to them in return," he said.
Yasuyuki who is on a trip to play golf with friends in Thailand said he did not expect to have the wallet back and was impressed of the graceful taxi driver.
He rewarded Thirapong about $550.
The Japanese tourist said he would invite more friends to travel to Thailand.
