HAMPTON CO., SC (WTOC) - The Hampton Emergency Management Agency is looking at opening up a shelter because there are an estimated 4,000 people without power in the county. Anyone who needs help, are asked to call the county emergency management agency hotline at 803.914.2158.
The Hampton County Emergency Management Director Susanne Peeples said more than 4,000 people were in the dark Thursday.
SCE&G is working to restore power, but some may be without power until Saturday. Officials are asking everyone to be patient as they continue to work to get things back to normal.
"Right now we have department of transportation that's out clearing roads. There are trees down all over the county, they're still trying to get that debris out of the way," Peeples said.
Hampton County District 1 and District 2 schools will be closed Friday because of the down trees.
