MCAS Beaufort welcomes new commander

BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) -

The Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort welcomed a new commander with a change of command ceremony Thursday afternoon.

Col. Brian C. Murtha relinquished command of the air station to Col. Peter D. Buck. Buck most recently served as the Chief of Staff at 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing in Cherry Point, NC.

"Well, dedicating 30 years of my life to the Marin Corps has meant interacting with the young men and women in the country on a daily basis," said Col. Murtha. "It really provides you the energy to continue on and shows you why we need to stay at the forefront of the national Security and take care of our nation."

Murtha, who assumed command on May 13, 2011, is retiring from the Marine Corps after 30 years of dedicated service.

He said he and his wife are going to Disney World to celebrate.
