PORT WENTWORTH, GA (WTOC) -

A mother has been charged with cruelty to children after a four-year-old child was found wandering the streets alone, cold and wet Thursday in Port Wentworth.

Port Wentworth Police were dispatched to Cordage Circle and Newport Boulevard late Thursday afternoon on a report of a four-year-old child wandering around a neighborhood alone.

A Comcast employee found the child crying, confused, wet, cold and unable to speak.

Officers, South Side Fire/EMS and Port Wentworth Fire treated the child. The air temperature at the time of the incident was 47 degrees.

The child was transported to Memorial for further treatment and evaluation.

The child's mother, Lakeshia Medsker, 36, was arrested and is being charged with first degree cruelty to children.

The other children in the home were turned over to other family members.

The child was released from the hospital late Thursday night after being treated for possible hypothermia.
