Norfolk Southern Corp. has asked the Georgia Dept. of Transportation to close a railroad crossing while work is being done at State Route 25/South Coastal Highway between Nelson Avenue and Rommel Avenue in Chatham County.
S.R. 25/South Coastal Highway will be closed and a detour will be effect from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., Feb. 22, weather permitting. Crews will be calibrating the railway to create a smooth transition for motorists at this rail crossing. Drivers will be able to access businesses, schools, and residences in the area up to work zone.
This detour will be in effect:
Traffic going northbound on S.R. 25 will detour 0.36 miles west on Brampton Road to S.R. 21.
Drivers on SR 21 will go 1.89 miles north to SR 307/Bourne Avenue, then travel 1.04 miles east on SR 307 to SR 25 where the detour ends.
Traffic traveling southbound on SR 25 will detour at the intersection of S.R. 307/Bourne Avenue. Traffic will travel 1.04 miles west on SR 307/Bourne Avenue to the intersection of SR 21. Traffic will travel 1.89 miles south to SR 21 to Brampton Road, then travel 0.36 miles on Brampton Road east to SR 25 where detour ends.
SR 25 will remain open to local traffic up to work zone.
