ATLANTA (WTOC) - A state of emergency declaration has been extended for 15 counties Georgia counties, including Screven and Emanuel counties.
Gov. Nathan Deal extended the declaration until Wednesday for these areas that require ongoing response efforts. The declaration extension is for these counties: Baldwin, Burke, Butts, Columbia, Emanuel, Hancock, Jasper, Jefferson, Jones, Johnson, Pike, Richmond, Screven, Taliaferro and Washington.
Local emergency management officials in Richmond County have reported to GEMA.
At least 200 homes in Richland County have sustained storm-related structural damage, primarily caused by falling trees, according to Richmond County officials.
Deal has requested that FEMA conduct individual assessments in this region, beginning in the hardest hit areas.
The federal inspections could start as early as next week.
