AUGUSTA, GA (WTOC) -

Utility crews have been hard at work to restore power to households affected by Wednesday's ice storm.

Of the 701,000 Georgia Power customers that had power outages on Wednesday, 678,000 have been restored and continue to work on the remaining statewide.

Georgia Power has reduced the number of outages in the Augusta area by half since 9 a.m. Friday. As of noon Saturday, the company reports that around 40,000 individual outages remain in Augusta and the surrounding communities – down from more than 80,000 Friday morning.

According to Georgia Power, crews are continuing to work throughout the day on Saturday to restore power to affected customers and are on track to restore service to an estimated 95 percent of affected customers in the Augusta area, as well as statewide, by midnight on Saturday.
