Three school buses ruined by fire

GARDEN CITY, GA (WTOC) -

As soon as John Stokes made the right turn off of Telfair Place onto Chatham Parkway on Sunday night, he saw the flames and smoke in the sky.

"The flames were about 10 foot over the school buses in the yard," he said.

The flames were coming from three buses at Chatham County school bus yard. According to Garden City Police and fire, the buses were fully enguled in flames by the time they arrived to the yard.

"One bus is completely totaled, the other two are burnt on the side and part of some of the seating inside," said Fire Chief, James Crosby.

According to Crosby, a man was seen running from the bus when police arrived. They tried to get him to stop, but he refused, so police used a taser.

"The clothes he got on are slightly burnt and all up," said Crosby.

The man was taken to Memorial Hospital to get checked up, but police say he will be okay.

Officials say they believe the man was homeless, and that he was trying to stay warm inside the bus.

No charges have been filed against the man who was tased, because police are still investigating.

The manager of the bus yard said she could not comment Sunday night.
