Some of the best chefs in the Southeast began gathering at a midtown Atlanta restaurant Tuesday morning in hopes of being tapped as a cast member of season 12 of the popular Bravo reality show Top Chef.

An open casting call takes place from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at The Spence restaurant, located at 75 5th Street in midtown Atlanta. Other casting calls are being held simultaneously in cities across the country.

Kevin Korman drove to Atlanta late Monday night from Alys Beach, FL, where he is the executive chef of Caliza. He told CBS Atlanta News he had to take care of some business in the Atlanta area anyway, so when he heard about the casting call, he thought, ‘Why not?'

"All of the chefs that I've aspired to be, I think I'm on par with them now," said Korman. "So it's just another challenge for myself."

Casting producer Marc Levine said that when it comes to selecting cast members, a person's raw talent is the most important thing.

"After that, a dynamic personality is always nice, somebody who's going to stand out, pop a little bit. But it comes down to the talent first and foremost," Levine said. "We want that, and then to have some personality to go along with it."
