City of Beaufort repairs Waterfront Park playground
BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) -
Crews have started replacing the rubber matting around the Beaufort Waterfront Park playground with the new hardwood mulch.
The park playground will be closed this week.
The matting was designed to give children a softer landing when they jump or fall from the playground equipment, but it's fallen apart through the years.
"It's a vital part of the Waterfront Park, it was part of the master plan when parents can be on one part of it, children can be able to play next to the water, and it's a key call for the city," said Beaufort Assistant Public Works Director Lamar Taylor.
Altogether, the playground project will cost just under $10,000. The city hopes to reopen it by Friday night.
