Georgia Day Parade marches through downtown

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Hundreds of youngsters celebrated history onWednesday.

Students filledthe streets of Savannah dressed in 18th century colonial costumes for theannual Georgia Day Parade. They took off from Forsyth Park and marched down to CityHall for a small ceremony.

The parade is held to commemorate the founding of Georgiain 1733.

"I think it is really cool. I am not from aroundhere and I have always wanted to be a part of something like this," saidSantiago Clavigo, a student at Coastal Middle School.

"It is great to see the kids get all excited andto love learning. to make history come alive that is what makes it interesting,"said Coach Vince Dooley, who served as Grand Marshal.  

The parade was canceled last year due to weather anddelayed this year. But Wednesday brought perfect weather for the event.
