SPRINGFIELD, GA (WTOC) -

Family and friends of Springfield Pastor Jeffery Rollins spent the morning saying their goodbyes.

Rollins died in a single-car crash on GA Hwy 119 over the weekend. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the church he led for 25 years, the First Baptist Church of Springfield.

Many other leaders in the community paid their respects including Effingham County Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie who says Rollins' death will leave a major void.

"He was easy to talk to. He didn't talk to you like a pastor and parishioner. He was always a friend and that is the way he talked to you - was as a friend - not as a 'I'm the pastor and you're one of my children in the church.' He was just always genuine," McDuffie said.

"He preached here for over 25 years, and I think that's a testamentto any pastor that can stay at any one church today for a 25 year span. I know of nobody that has ever had anythingbad to say about the man. He has always been 100 percent genuine. He was a goodfriend, and a good pastor."

Rollins is survived by his wife, four children, grandchildren, parents and so many more.
