SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Sentencing is scheduled to begin Thursday morning for two people taken to court in an elder abuse case.

Investigators say Maria Wiggins and Michael Nesmith refused to give Wiggins' mother food and physically dragged her around the house. The two are also accused of stealing the elderly woman's social security money and prescription medication.

Police were tipped-off to the abuse after the woman arrived at a hospital with bruises.

Last week a jury found Wiggins and Nesmith guilty on all counts except for elder abuse.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled to get underway for both Wiggins and Nesmith Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Chatham County Courthouse.
