Man pleads guilty to charges in death case

John Adams John Adams
SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

John Adams entered the plea Thursday morning and was sentenced to 25 years in prison with 10 to serve. The remaining 15 years will be served on probation.

The plea comes despite a decision by Georgia's Supreme Court ruling that Adams was entitled to a new trial due to the, quote, "erroneous and harmful admission" of certain evidence in the death of Sean Giroir during a home invasion.

Another man was also charged in the case. But resentencing for Alex Cowart's part in the murder was sent back to court as well because he was improperly sentenced for two felony murder convictions when there was a single victim.

Adams and Alex Cowart were sentenced in 2011 for the 2010 slaying of SCAD student Sean Giroir during a home invasion. Adams is accused of driving the getaway car during the crime.
