Coastal Carolina Hospital breaks ground on new Women's Pavilion
JASPER CO., SC (WTOC) -
In a few months, Coastal Carolina Hospital will have its own birthing center, making it the only one in Jasper County.
Town leaders joined hospital staff Thursday morning for the groundbreaking ceremony of the new 16,000 square foot Women's Pavilion.
It will feature 16 beds with state of the art equipment.
Right now, only Beaufort Memorial and Hilton Head hospital provide birthing centers.
Hospital officials say this will allow them to deliver about a thousand new babies every year.
"It's going to be a phenomenal addition to healthcare, I think, in our little neck of the woods here. Folks have not had the ability to deliver a baby in Jasper County since 2006 so it's huge," said Coastal Carolina Hospital CEO Brad Talbert.
The construction will cost around $1.5 million dollars.
The new Women's Pavilion is scheduled to open in late spring 2014.
