SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Savannah City Council voted Thursday to approve a$200,000 settlement Captain Charles Hall with the Savannah-Chatham MetropolitanPolice Department.

The lawsuit was filed last year against the city afteralleged discriminatory promotion practices within the police department.

Hall alleged Chief Willie Lovett said in a 2011staff meeting about an open job, "you all know that this is a whiteposition." They also claim that Lovett said he would "appoint awhite" to the position because he already had two black majors in thedepartment.

City officials saidthey decided to settle since this happened under a prior administration and thecity would be saving tax payer dollars.
