Second lock down in two days in Effingham County

Posted: Updated:

Students are home after a lockdown at Ebenezer Middle School.

Effingham County Sheriff's deputies were called to the school after a suspicious note was found Friday morning.

This is the second lockdown in Effingham County in two days and Sheriff's officials said it looks like a copycat case.

Ebenezer Middle School was put on lockdown around 11:15 a.m. The Sheriff's Office searched the school after finding the written threat.

After coming up empty handed, the lockdown was lifted about two hours later.

On Thursday, Effingham County High School was put on lockdown for a brief period of time after a similar threat was found.

Parents waiting to pick up their children said it was a bomb threat that was written in the girls bathroom.

"It is scary because you never know what is going to happen," said parent Nicole Session. "It is not like it used to be in the old days. People have changed and I take it seriously."

"We had two similar threats in the past two days and of course, it most likely is a copycat thing or a hoax," said Effingham County Public Information Officer David Ehsanipoor. "We don't like to publicize stuff like this, because it will make another copycat situation. God forbid we don't act on it and something bad happens."

All students are safe and the two threats remain under investigation.
