Thunderstorm leaves damage in Wayne, worries elsewhere

Posted: Updated:
WAYNE CO., GA (WTOC) -

A brief but intense thunderstorm rolled across Georgia. It left more damage in western Georgia, but still left its mark in our area.

The storm brought down several trees in northern Wayne County, including one that landed on a house just off Highway 84 near the Altamaha River.

That track was one of the few south of I-16. The majority of the storm touched Candler, Emanuel, Bulloch and Jenkins counties, as well as other areas closer to Dublin and Macon.

This storm brought some concerns in communities hit last week by heavy ice.

"We were worried the wind and rain could aggravate some of the limbs and trees damaged last week," explained Candler County EMA director David Moore.

While that wasn't the case, the rain didn't do them any favors.

"It certainly halts some of the last of the debris cleanup on some of our remote areas and dirt roads," he added.

Moore estimated the roads would dry over the weekend and county crews could finish early next week.
