Main Street Beaufort hosts informational meeting about streetlight project

BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) -

Starting on Feb. 24, some major streetlight construction will be taking place in downtown Beaufort.

On Friday morning, some Bay Street business owners got a chance to learn more about the project during a public informational meeting at the Verdier House.

More than 70 new streetlights will be installed within a six block radius along Bay Street.

Crews will be cutting about 18 inches from the curb line and will replace the old electrical conduits.

"It's a big payoff, it's going to improve the lighting significantly, the quality of the light will be much better, they're going to fill in some holes where there's currently no lighting, so it's going to improve the overall safety downtown," said Paul Moore, Project Manager for Ward Edwards.

City officials maintain that no roads will be closed during the construction.
