SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The NAACP held their Savannah branch mass-membership meeting on Sunday.
During the gathering, Chatham County Chairman Al Scott took a moment to talk about the passing of former Savannah Mayor Floyd Adams.
"Well, I think the city is still in grieving, and when they really reflect on the fact of some of the things that Floyd was able to accomplish, they're going to miss him even more." said Scott.
The keynote speaker at the meeting today was the newly-installed president of the georgia state conference NAACP, Reverend Doctor Francys Johnson.
Dr. Johnson says they are continuing to fight for "red, white and blue" issues, and the best way we can do that is to become more active in the community.
"Folks that have said for too long, I need to get involved, this is the time we need you back into service. Not just at the NAACP, but at the YMCA at the SCLS at the Board of Education, at the commissioners meeting. We need the public to get involved to take up to take up their own place in America's narrative." said Dr. Johnson.
