Posted: Updated:

Two boats that have been abandoned at Jarvis Creek since August were removed by a contractor hired by the town of Hilton Head Island.

The contractor R.L. Morrison & Sons Inc. plans to evaluate the site on Monday at low tide and will mobilize the site at high tide in the afternoon, according to a town news release. On Sunday, the contractor went out to assess the boats for the purpose of dismantling and removing the boats.

The dismantling and removing of the rigging, outriggers, masts and stays is expected to take place Tuesday. After that, silt curtain and containment booms will be deployed and the removal process will commence, according to the news release.

The cost to remove the boats is $157,715 and the work is contracted for a 40-day period, according to the town's news release.
