Bluffton student charged with weapons at school due in court

BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) -

The student charged after taking a loaded handgun and knives to Bluffton High School in May 2013 is due in court Wednesday. 

Bluffton Police say Austen Almeida took a loaded Glock 22 handgun, knives, gasoline, lighter fluid and a lighter to school. He was denied bond after a hearing the day after he was arrested. 

Almeida is charged with possession of a weapon on school property, unlawfully carrying a firearm, possession of a destructive device and disrupting school. He will face a judge Wednesday afternoon.

If convicted, Almeida could be sentenced to at least 15-years in prison.
