Annual 3-day Mardi Gras celebration set to kick off on Tybee

Tybee's 6th annual Mardi Gras Festival will kick off Thursday on the island. 

Tybee will be decked-out in purple, gold and green and party-goers will enjoy live entertainment, lavish costumes, Cajun cuisine and much more.

All ages are invited out to pay homage to the traditions of Mardi Gras on Tybee and enjoy fun, family-friendly events dating back to the ancient Romans.

The three-day festival gets underway Thursday at CoCo's Sunset Grille on Old U.S. Hwy. 80 at 7 p.m. with a King Cake Party. There is also going to be a N'awlins costume contest on Friday and a Mardi Gras street party and parade on Saturday. 

The following is a run-down of the weekend's events: 

Feb. 27: King Cake Party, CoCo's Sunset Grille, Old U.S. Hwy. 80, 7 p.m.

Feb. 28: N'awlins Costume & Cocktail Kick Off Party, Fannies on the Beach, 1613 Strand Ave, 7 p.m.

March 1: Mardi Gras Street Party, Strand Roundabout (at south end of island on Tybrisa Street and Butler Avenue), 12-9 p.m.

March 1: Mardi Gras Tybee Parade, Butler Avenue to Tybrisa Street, 2 p.m.
