SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - More than 430 images of River Street and Factors' Walk that documents before during and after the revitalization of Savannah's historic waterfront were donated to the city of Savannah on Thursday.
The photo collection spans 1965 to 1994 and is on public view.
The photos were handed over the to The Savannah Riverfront Urban Renewal Project by an architect who worked on the revitalization project that began in 1973 and was completed in 1977.
Eric Meyerhoff, architect of redevelopment and the project architect, said he cannot believe how much the area has grown over the years - but his favorite piece of the area? It's the tugboat down on the riverfront.
"That is a project we designed and everybody that goes there smiles," he said.
That is the fourth tugboat since the redevelopment. Originally, the plan was to turn the riverfront into parking for Broughton Street.
