LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A man who was yelling and swinging a machete broke into a Louisville apartment where several people, including two children, were sleeping early Friday morning, according to police.

When police arrived, two of the victims ran out of the building and told them Gueltzow kicked in a locked bedroom door where two people were asleep. The door broke off the hinges.

Once inside the room, the witnesses say, Gueltzow started yelling and swinging the machete at the victims. A woman who tried to leave the apartment was hit in the face with the machete handle, leaving a visible mark on her cheek, according to an arrest report. Gueltzow and the victim once lived together.

Gueltzow is charged with burglary, wanton endangerment and assault.
