Truman Pkwy phase 5 dedication ceremony held

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

A ceremony dedicating a four-year long road project that really began in the 90s has wrapped up.

The Georgia Dept. of Transportation cut the ribbon to thenew extension just after 4 p.m.

Chatham County special local option sales tax funds, state and federal funds helped pay for the project. It involved four years of building across the Vernonburg River and protected marshland.

Now drivers will have to wait a while longer before they can drive on phase 5.

"It's been a SPLOST project on every SPLOST since westarted SPLOST and when you stop and think about it, there were people who Ithink we're becoming disillusioned about this thing," Chatham County CommissionChairman Al Scott.
