SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Members of the 42nd Fires Brigade collaborated with staff at Old Fort Jackson to dedicate cannons that date back to the War of 1812.

Members of the brigade got the opportunity to tour thegrounds of the fort and see the new location of the cannons.

Col. John O'Grady explained why it is important to preservepieces of history.

"I think really what it does is again it just shows theprominence of those pieces and the artillery in the history, not only of ournation, but really the history here in Savannah," said O'Grady.

The Army used their equipment on Monday to help Old FortJackson staff move the cannons so that the public can enjoy them.

Now staff is working to raise money to have the cannonsmounted and restored to look like new.
