Memorial and Kohl's team up to reduce infant deaths

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Memorial Children's Hospital and Kohl's are teaming up toreduce the number of infant deaths caused by unsafe sleep.

The Chatham County Child Fatality Review Board said 30-50percent of infant deaths a year are caused by unsafe sleep.

Kohl's presented Memorial with a check for $6,459 on Fridayaimed at educating the community about safer sleeping methods.

"We know that children should be sleeping on their backs,infants should be sleeping on their backs, their shouldn't be objects in bedthat can hurt them or people in bed that can hurt them," said Memorial Children'sHospital Medical Director Dr. Eric Pearlman.

The program, called Kohl's Cares is a national program aimedat giving back to local communities.
