Sewage spill occurs on Montclair Blvd.

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

City ofSavannah crews responded to a minor sewage spill at 405 Montclair Blvd. onFriday.

The spill was caused by a grease blockage in an 8-inch diameter gravity sewer main, which resulted in 355 gallons to sewage to be spilled, according to the city. Spills of 10,000 gallons or less are classified as a minorspill under Georgia Environmental Protection Division guidelines.

CityWater and Sewer crews were notified of the spill at 11:29 a.m. and the spillwas corrected at 12:40 p.m.The blockage was cleared and the mix of contaminated and drainage water was pumped from the canal and back into the sewer collection system. 

The private lateralis scheduled for repair on Saturday. The spill was contained in the ditch, but therelease did make it to the Wilshire Canal. The ditch was flushed and lime was placed on the affected area. Spill notifications were placed at207 San Fernando and Wilshire Canal at White Bluff.

Allagencies required by the EPD were notified.
