SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Great Savannah Cleanup kicked off, with residents and members of the community coming toether to beautify Savannah.

The volunteers gathered at Wells Park where they picked up trash, removed graffiti and weeds, mulched trees, and much more as part of the four month long project to spruce up the neighborhoods in Savannah.

Volunteers are also collecting old, used electronics to recycle with IMS Electronics.

The Great Savannah Cleanup lasts until the end of June and anyone who wanted to get involved are more than welcome to participate.

The Great Savannah Cleanup runs from March 1 through June 30, and is sponsored by the City of Savannah and Keep Savannah Beautiful in coordination with the Great American Cleanup. During the Great Savannah Cleanup, residents and businesses throughout Savannah are encouraged to help organize their own neighborhood cleanups. If residents provide labor, the City will provide bags and gloves, then collect and dispose of the bags of trash.

To organize a neighborhood cleanup, contact Keep Savannah Beautiful Coordinator Nathaniel Glover at 651-1967.
