DAUFUSKIE ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

The annual marsh tacky horse race has been postponed.

The Carolina Marsh Tacky Association has canceled the March 29,2014 beach race on Daufuskie Island. According to a news release, a number ofthe race team members would not have been available for the event, due tohealth concerns and demanding schedules.

The CMTA released the followingstatement:

We appreciate the generosity of the Daufuskie community, especially Wick Scurryof J & W Corporation; Brian McCarthy and Kevin McCarthy of Bloody PointGolf Club and Resort; Robin Townsend and Tracy Von Harten of Daufuskie IslandTourism, Pete Lang of Beachfield; and author, Roger Pinckney.

The core leadership of theAssociation has been beset with an unfortunate and unprecedented series ofhealth issues and schedule conflicts that reduced the field of competing horsesto only 7. The Association felt it needed twice that number to put on aquality event.

All parties are working towardrescheduling the event for the fall of 2014.
