Two men arrested for attempted child molestation out on bond

EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

Two men charged with criminal attempt to commit child molestation have been released on bond Monday.

Douglas Shontz, 63, was released on $11,000 bond. Kevin Horton, 24, was granted a $21,000 bond by a magistrate court judge.

Both men were charged with criminal attempt to commit child molestation after they were arrested during a sting by the Effingham County Sheriff's Office Internet Ctimes Against Children Task Force.

According to the Effingham County Sheriff's Office, Shontz attempted to meet with who he thought was an underage girl on Feb. 24 at a gas station on U.S. 80 for sex, but was instead met by Effingham County Sheriff's deputies.

Horton attempted to meet with who he thought was an underage girl on Feb. 27 at Baker's Pond in Springfield. He was instead met by sheriff's deputies.

Horton was also charged with sexual exploitation and furnishing obscene materials to a minor.
