Health-related requirements changed for 2014-2015 school year

Requirements for children to attend school in Georgia havechanged for the 2014-2015 school year.

The Vision, Hearing and Dental screening form, 3300, nowrequires that a nutrition category be filled out.

The nutrition category includes height, weight and Body MassIndex. The new form can be found here, and then clicking on the Immunizations andVaccinations link under the Quick Links menu on the homepage.

Children currently enrolled in the school Pre-K programshould not be required to complete an additional form 3300 for admittance intothe kindergarten program.

Also in the 2014-2015 school year, seventh grade studentswill be  required to have the tetanus, diphtheria,pertussis (Tdap) and meningococcal (meningitis) vaccines prior to enteringschool.

Effective July 1, 2014, any child born on or after Jan. 1,2002 who are attending seventh grade, and new entrants into Georgia schools,must have one dose of Tdap vaccine and one dose of meningococcal vaccine.

"These are positive changes," said Diane Weems, M.D., HealthDirector for the Coastal Health District in a statement. "Measuring a child'sBMI at an early age will help identify possible nutritional issues andvaccinating middle-school students against preventable diseases will help keepthem and our communities healthier."
