RR crossing closure at SR 25/South Coastal Hwy scheduled

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

The Georgia Dept. of Transportation is closinga railroad crossing on Saturday at the request of Norfolk Southern Corp. and a detourwill be in place.

The closure willbe in effect from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, weather permitting, on StateRoute 25/South Coastal Highway between Nelson Avenue and Rommel Avenue inChatham County. A detour will be set up to reroute traffic during the closure.

Crews will becalibrating the railway to create a smooth transition for drivers at therailroad crossing. Drivers will be able to access businesses, schools andresidences in the area up to work zone. SR 25 will remain open to local trafficup to the work zone.                         

The DOT willhave this detour in place:

Drivers headed northboundon S.R. 25 will go 0.36 miles west on Brampton Road to SR 21.  Trafficwill travel on SR 21 for 1.89 miles north to SR 307/Bourne Avenue, then travel1.04 miles east on SR 307 to SR 25 where the detour ends.

Drivers headed southboundon SR 25 will detour at the intersection of S.R. 307/Bourne Avenue. Traffic will go 1.04 miles west on SR 307/Bourne Avenue to the intersection ofSR 21. Traffic will go 1.89 miles south to SR 21 to Brampton Road, then travel0.36 miles on Brampton Road east to SR 25 where detour ends.
