AMHERST, MA (WSHM) -

The University of Massachusetts Amherst Hospitality Department held their annual student-run career day Wednesday morning.

It is the largest student-run career fair in New England. Nearly 800 students are projected to visit with the 65 companies.

MGM Resorts and Mohegan Sun were among the several companies that came to discuss the opportunities they have for future graduates.

"Students are excited about that because there are students out there that want to work in casino management. They want to be managing the casinos, managing the events, hotels, whatever it is," said Alexandra Haddad, chairwoman of the job fair committee.

Laurie Salame is a professor at UMass. She said many students who are taking a casino course are excited about the possibility of thousands of jobs coming to the area.

"I think the possibility to form relationships while they're still in school looking for those jobs is great because when the door opens to the casino, we want those jobs to be filled with our great qualified students," said Salame.

Cassandra Barci is only a junior, so she's getting a head start on the job search process. She said MGM Springfield would appeal to her because she would like to stay in state and work specifically in casino events.

"They're offering 3,000 jobs with the opening of MGM Springfield, so I'd be really interested to see all the positive outcomes with that," said Barci.

MGM recruiter My Chau-Pennepacker is at the fair to inform students about the opportunities the company offers as a whole.

"We're just trying to connect and give information about our corporation just to connect with future leaders of the industry. We're super excited, we have tons of options such as hotels rooms. A lot of them are actually asking about events like that, so it depends on the individual," said Chau-Pennepacker.

This was the 40th job fair held by the UMass Hospitality Department.
