Greening of fountain to mark start to annual St. Patrick's celebration

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

St. Patrick's Day is just a little over a week away and on Friday, Savannah will kick off its annual celebration with the traditional Greening of the Fountain. 

Kennadie Mangelsdorf, a first grader at St. James Catholic School in Savannah and winner of this year's WTOC St. Patrick's Day coloring contest, will help 2014 Parade Grand Marshal Dave Roberts green the Forsyth Park fountain Friday at noon. The event is open to everyone. 

If you can't make it out to the park Friday don't worry, WTOC will be covering it live at noon on air and on live stream.

The 2014 St. Patrick's Day Parade in Savannah will step off at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 17.

Savannah St. Patrick's Day 2014 events are as follows:

  • March 7 - Greening of the Fountain, Forsyth Park, 12 noon
  • March 9 - Celtic Cross Ceremony 
  • March 14 - Irish Heritage Dance, Alee Temple, 8 p.m. 
  • March 14-17 - St. Patrick's on the River Festival
  • March 15 - Saint Patrick's Day Mass, Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, 8 a.m. 
  • March 15 - Tara Feis, Emmet Park, 11-5 p.m. 
  • March 15 - Tybee Island Parade 3 p.m. 
  • March 16 - Jasper Green Ceremony, Madison Square, 4:30 p.m. 
  • March 17 - 2014 Saint Patrick's Day Parade
