Statesboro woman charged with child cruelty

BULLOCH CO., GA (WTOC) -

A woman is charged with first-degree child cruelty after a child's schoolreported his injuries to the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office.

Sgt.Kenny Thompson responded on March to the school on a report of child cruelty.

Thompsonspoke to school representatives and the Ga. Dept. of Family and Children Servicesand examined the 5-year-old boy who had bruising around one of his eyes.   

Thompsonspoke to the boy and then his mother 28-year-old Shante Nicole Wright, ofStatesboro, about his injury. 

Basedon the physical and testimonial evidence, Wright was arrested in connectionwith causing the injury to the boy's face by use of a belt, according to thesheriff's office.

Wrightwas taken to the Bulloch County jail and charged with one count of first-degreecruelty to a child.

Wrightlater posted a bond and was released. The Division of Family and ChildrenServices continues to be involved in the case.
