SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

More than 1,000 runners filled downtown Savannah for the Shamrock Run.

The run benefits the March of Dimes.

The race took runners from Historic Old Savannah to Forsyth Park, then back up to Ellis Square for a 5K.

One of the runners in tonight's race explained what makes this race special.

"It's always nice to run for something that motivates you to run for a good cause," said costume contest winner Logan Synatzskye. "Like, any kind of charity."

On Friday, Savannah got into the Irish spirit as fountains throughout the city are already green as we count down the days to St. Patrick's Day.
