ST. HELENA ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -

St. Helena woman wanted in connection with the death of a 2-year-old child has been arrested.

LaQuana Chere Chisolm, 26, turned herself in to Sheriff's Office investigators at 6 p.m. Friday night. She was wanted on one count of Homicide by Child Abuse for the death of her boyfriend's daughter, 2-year-old Phylicia Anaya Garry.

Phylicia was pronounced dead at noon on Thursday at MUSC, where she had been airlifted for a traumatic head injury. According to the sheriff's office, medical care was not sought for the child until three hours after she had been injured, when a family member came home and found her unconscious.

Chisolm initially reported that the child fallen off a bed, but later admitted that she had struck the child in the head with a dumbbell according to reports.

Chisolm is being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center where she will remain pending a bond hearing.
