Paving work set this week for Beaufort

Posted: Updated:

Paving is expected to begin Wednesday for North Street in downtown Beaufort, weather permitting. The paving work will take place beginning at its eastern end at New Street.

Battery Creek Road from Oak Haven to Mossy Oaks Drive, should be completed by Tuesday, according to a town of Beaufort news release.

North Street in downtown Beaufort, from East Street to Bay Street, is scheduled to start Wednesday.

Work is expected to start on Charles Street on March 19, but could start sooner. The work will run from Bay Street to Boundary Street.

The work likely result in temporary lane closures and traffic delays.

Beaufort City Manager Scott Dadson recommends drivers use alternate routes.

"The paving contractor had a cancelation somewhere else, so they are able to take care of our Beaufort road projects sooner than originally scheduled," Dadson said in a statement. "It doesn't happen that way very often, and we are happy to get this work done. We'll continue installing the new streetlights and the traffic signal project on Charles Street should be done soon."
