Paving work set to start in Beaufort


Pavingis expected to begin Wednesday for North Street in downtown Beaufort, weatherpermitting. The paving work will take place beginning at its eastern end at NewStreet.

BatteryCreek Road from Oak Haven to Mossy Oaks Drive, should be completed by Tuesday,according to a town of Beaufort news release.

NorthStreet in downtown Beaufort, from East Street to Bay Street, is scheduled tostart Wednesday.

Workis expected to start on Charles Street on March 19, but could start sooner. Thework will run from Bay Street to Boundary Street.

Thepaving work will likely result in temporary lane closures and traffic delays.

BeaufortCity Manager Scott Dadson recommends drivers use alternate routes.

"Thepaving contractor had a cancelation somewhere else, so they are able to takecare of our Beaufort road projects sooner than originally scheduled," Dadsonsaid in a statement. "It doesn't happen that way very often, and we are happyto get this work done. We'll continue installing the new streetlights and thetraffic signal project on Charles Street should be done soon."
