GSU grad rides to help others recover

STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) -

Steve Pulley spent a few minutes getting his final gear before he started a cross-country adventure.

Pulley, who graduated from Georgia Southern in December, will bicycle from California to Charleston, SC to raise money and awareness for addiction recovery. Specifically, he's fundraising for Southern's Center for Addiction Recovery.

Pulley became addicted to drugs and alcohol as a teen and it nearly cost him his college career. He entered recovery and restarted college at age 20.

"Because I got the help I needed through the Center for Addiction Recovery, I have a future now," he said. "Nearly half the college students that start school don't finish and drugs and alcohol play a part in that. So many people could benefit from recovery at universities around the country."

Pulley will chronicle his journey through his website www.ride4recovery.org and a Facebook page of the same name.
