Rincon church burglarized as thieves take laptop

Posted: Updated:
RINCON, GA (WTOC) -

It's the last place you'd think a burglar would hit, but deputies said it's the first place on some thieves' minds.

Three windows were smashed and a laptop was stolen when Goshen Road Baptist Church in Rincon was broken into this week.

Parishioners discovered the burglary Tuesday when they came to set up the church for a concert.

They had this message for the thief or thieves.

"You're forgiven," deacon Mark Ward said. "And it doesn't  hurt us. We're still here, and we'll still be here.

Deputies said the burglars tried to use a baseball bat to break in. When that didn't work, they stole a statue from a neighbor's lawn and smashed a window.

The Effingham County Sheriff's Office said church burglaries aren't unusual in Effingham County but almost always end in an arrest.

They ask anyone with information on the theft to call the Sheriff's office.
