SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A Savannah man surrendered to police after they found guns, cash and drugs at his residence.

Randall Lane Caruthers faces a long list of charges, including drug possession and gun possession while committing a felony.

Police first started looking into Caruthers after he was involved in a fatal crash on the Islands Expressway in early March.

His 2002 Chevy Tahoe crossed the center line and hit a car, killing the driver. Caruthers and his passenger each told police the other man was driving, which led investigators to dig deeper.

Caruthers had been on their radar since 2012, but after this fatal crash, they began to look at reports that he was involved with drugs.

Police said Caruthers gave them the perfect opportunity during a traffic stop last week. A Metro canine alerted police on the vehicle.

Inside they found a large wad of cash. Police later got a warrant to search his home, where they found 14 firearms, marijuana and large amounts of cash.

Police believe he may be the center of a drug ring.

"The case has to go through the process but there was a network we believe of people distributing drugs centered around," said Capt. John Best.

Also, during the search at his home police arrested Santanya Heather Emerick on charges of possesion of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Capt. Best said more charges may be coming against Caruthers.
