CCSO officers attend K9 medic class

CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) -

The Chatham County Sheriff's Office, along with the GeorgiaEmergency Management Agency is helping medics and K9 handlers learn how to carefor their four legged partners if they get injured.

Over 37 tactical medics and K9 handlers attended theworkshop. The class covered everything from bullet wounds to snake bites.

"These working dogs go into the exact same dangers thattheir human counterparts go in to," said K-9 Medic Director Jo-Anne Brenner. "Sowe may seem them in rubble piles where there may be paw injuries, we see bulletwounds, a lot of stab wounds, we see heat injuries. So just like that theirhuman counterparts, we need to protect these dogs while they are serving us inthese dangerous environments."

TheTactical Medical Solutions and Pet Emergency and Specialty Hospital alsosponsored the event.
