SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A man wanted for rape and kidnapping is in custody, a case that has gripped the area for weeks.

With the help of the US Marshal's Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, Savannah-Chatham Metro Police arrested 38-year-old Torrey Scott early Friday afternoon.

Metro Police said Torrey Scott robbed, kidnapped and assaulted a woman last month after abducting her from a Candler Hospital parking lot.

The Special Victims Unit has charged Torrey Scott with crimes against a woman.

On Feb. 9, police said Scott approached a woman that morning as she was parking her car at Candler.

The woman, who was pregnant, was on her way in to start her shift at the hospital.

Deputies said Scott robbed her, then forced her to drive to a secluded area on the east side where he attacked her.

The woman's attorney said his client's unborn child is healthy but she isn't ready to return to work.

Scott is due for a court appearance likely sometime next week.

Chatham County leaders have decided against using the city of Savannah for police services in the unincorporated part of the county after February 1st.

Instead, they're asking the sheriff for help in a last-ditch effort to patrol that area. The sheriff says this is the first time they've asked for his help in the whole demerger process.
