Young Greenwood boy fighting disease asks for help winning a special needs bike

GREENWOOD, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A 7-year-old boy from Greenwood is asking for help from the Upstate to make his dreams come true.

Noah Estes is fighting a serious mitochondrial disease that's taken away his ability to walk and eat food. He's so medically fragile that he's connected to multiple IV pumps around the clock. The disease also affects his energy level, he's forced to sleep 18 hours a day.

This month Estes has a chance at something that he and his family say will help him to feel normal, even if it's just for a few minutes a day.

Friendship Circle, a non-profit that supports families with specials needs, is holding "The Great Bike Giveaway," a program that's giving special needs bikes away to children.

It's an online giveaway that will award several variations of the bikes to kids who get the most nominations. Vote for Noah here.

It's the perfect opportunity for Estes who says he's been dreaming of riding a bike "forever." His parents say they discovered the adaptable bikes several years ago, but don't have the money to purchase one.

"He has a short window of being awake and we want him to be the most normal little boy he can when he's awake and ready to play," said Noah's mother, Kate Estes.

His mom says his seven brothers and sisters all have their own bikes. Normally Noah Estes has to sit inside and watch them play from the window. They're hoping this giveaway will change that.

"The first thing I would do is race my brothers," said Noah Estes.

Dozens of children are registered for the giveaway. The child who gets the most nominations in each category will automatically win a bike. The remaining bikes will be raffled off to other participants.

Noah Estes and his family are asking the community to help make his dream come true and vote.

"He's had to fight so hard for every accomplishment. It would be a dream come true," said Kate Estes.

No registration is required. Simply click here and click directly on the green "nominate button." Once you do that, the number of nominations will increase and your vote has been counted. There will not be a message that appears confirming your vote.

Visitors can also donate money to the giveaway. Once enough money is raised to purchase another bike, one more bike will be raffled off to the kids who enter.
