FORT STEWART (WTOC) -

Researchers are putting service members through a series ofdrills to help the Army develop testing standards to see which troops are fitfor combat, regardless of gender.

Soldiers at Fort Stewart, both men and women, are simulatingcombat duties to help army researchers and commanders create physical standardsfor future recruits.

The study takes on added importance now that the pentagonhas ordered the military to integrate women into combat roles.

"Females should have the opportunity just to do it if they'rephysically capable, which some females are, we're finding out," said PFC JoaidaCruz.

"This overall effort is about matching skill sets andattributes to the right job," said Maj. Gen. Mike Murray.

Unliketraditional fitness tests involving running and pushups, these tests arerelated to actual battlefield duties.
