Firefighters from near and far gather for annual ball

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The hottest party in town happened on Saturday night at the Trustee's Garden: The Annual Saint Patrick's Day Firefighter's Ball.

Organizers say they hold the festivities near Saint Patrick's Day, because that way, lots of firefighters from right here in Savannah, and as far away as California, Chicago, and Boston are able to take part in the fun filled event.

"It is a great event that honestly lets us put our hair down a little bit, but still be amongst the professionals that have such a cause that you cannot find in many professions. We are always in service whether we are working or on our days off where we are raising money for muscular dystrophy," said Robert Miley, Vice President, International Association of Firefighters.

Proceeds from the ball will go to several area charities.
