Tucson Festival of Books comes to an end

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The Tucson Festival of Books came toand end Sunday evening and organizers were working to figure out just how manypeople made it out this weekend.

The early signs seem promising.Organizers say they could surpass the record of 120,000 people from last year,just from looking at the attendance of the first day.

According to a recent study, thefestival brings in about $4 million to the local economy. The book festival hasquickly grown to be the 4th largest in the country.

It's more than just books; it also hasan event showcasing science city and even an E-Book pavilion.

Many folks came from out of town tocheck out the event. That is the case with first time author Ed Sipos, who sayshis experience at the festival has been very positive.

"Yes, it's been great," Sipos said. "I'vehad a really good response. I think it's a fairly unique book, so I thinkpeople are interested in it and people are really excited about it."

First-time visitor Janice said she'sbeen to festivals before, but the Tucson show was a whole new level.

"Nothing like this, no," Ryan said. "I'mglad I happened to be in town this weekend. It's really interesting that wewere able to do this."

Organizers say they are already busyplanning for next year's festival of books and that they intend to help keep itgrowing.
